I'm another year older and of course I thank God for that, but I was thinking back on somethings that I heard as I was coming up. I remember distinctly hearing older people say that "when you get older you'll become wiser". And, of course like any young person that heard those type of statements from an older person you thought they were dead on target and I couldn't wait to get older just to get wiser.
As I began to read and study the scriptures I was to say the least shocked to know that this "when you get older you'll become wiser" statement wasn't exactly true with everybody. Wisdom is more than just knowing something, it's (actually) the knowing how and I can say that even after four plus decades I can concur with Job32:9 "But sometimes the elders are not wise. Sometimes the aged do not understand justice."
So, as believers what should we do in order to gain this wisdom as we begin to grow older. I believe the answer just like everything else lies inside of the scriptures, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."James 1:5

There are indeed the young who are fairly wise and a lot of old fools. Those who fear God start as fairly wise young men and women and grow into towers of wisdom as they age. May I one day be of that description.
