"The Needs of Others"

Mark 1:29-39

We say the Lord is our example and that we follow after those things He left for us. We remind ourselves of His words and all the many things He did for people in the days He was here on earth.

Are we really following the example left for us? Yes, we tell people about Him, and we express to them the awesome power He has to help change their lives.

But, what are we doing to see to the needs of others? Is it all just lip service or are we getting our hands dirty helping to till the ground?

Saints, remember greater works shall we do; if we do it in His name.

Oh, dear...I want to follow our Lord, but "see to the needs of others"? Uhoh!! (typical, huh?)

I think, for me, the greatest reminder here (thank you!) is the "IN HIS NAME" part.

We have to make our choices IN HIS NAME, too, I think. Not so easy sometimes! I try, but.....!!

I wanted to tell you that same neighbor I told you about called last night, in a health crisis...she is from Communist Romania and has a terrible time talking about faith...."please THINK OF ME..." she said. I know she meant "pray for me.." and I told her I would pray for her (not THINK about her!!), but IN HIS NAME....I figured I had to add "That doesn't mean you'll be healed, Liana, but He'll give you the confidence and strength you'll need to get through this"

We can do more with the strength He gives us...in His name.

Z, You've nailed it.

And, I too will be praying for your neighbor, Liana.

Blessings.

Do we take up the basin and the towel? Do we have the heart o the servant who's job it is to wash the feet of others? Do we love strangers enough to be falsely accused for them and put to death unjustly in order to not have to be separated from them? Do we reach out in love to those who continually reject us with their actions?

I have a long way to travel.

Pops, if those are your goals, that is a VERY LONG WAY TO TRAVEL!

Thank GOD His Son came to earth and knows how difficult those things would be to do..and forgives us because He knows. Whew.
If I don't have this right, I'm the one throwing in the towel!
(maybe cuz I'm a Steelers fan!! sorry, couldn't resist!!!) xxx

Jesus not only accomplished these things but left them to us as reminders of our place and our relation to others. This is a difficult example for us to follow because pride is the oldest and strongest of foes and often times the craftiest as well. Many people want to think ill of Adam or Eve for what they did but were it me instead the outcome would have surely been equal or worse. Sometimes we feel good for doing what we deem to be good but are we doing the easy work or the hard work?

PF, I tend to think that if we feel good after doing good then we more than likely did the easy work.

I believe when we really are looking to the needs of others we find ourselves running out of time to accommplish what was placed on our hearts. The burden for caring is a great one and can only be carried with the help of the Lord which automatically removes self from the equation.

Blessings.
